A Landmark Edition Driving Africa’s Mining Transformation

IMC Morocco 2025 closed with outstanding success, solidifying Morocco’s position as a regional industrial hub and reinforcing Africa’s central role in the global critical minerals landscape. Held in Marrakech, the event gathered ministers, CEOs, investors, experts, and institutions from across the continent and beyond for two days of strategic dialogue and decisive action.

Under the theme “Strategic and Critical Metals: Morocco, an Open Industrial and Technological Hub for Regional and Global Added Value,” this year’s congress delivered strong outcomes that will shape the future of African mining and industrial integration.

High-Level Vision & Continental Leadership

The congress opened with a powerful keynote from H.E. Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition & Sustainable Development, who underscored Africa’s geological strength, Morocco’s industrial leadership, and the need for shared continental standards and cooperation. Her message captured the spirit of IMC Morocco: Africa must lead, define, and benefit from its mineral wealth.

Ministerial Dialogue & Strategic Agreements

Ministers and government leaders from Morocco, Mauritania, Kenya, Liberia, Comoros, Saudi Arabia, and others advanced discussions on sovereignty, governance, regional value chains, and the energy transition.

The signing of key cooperation agreements—including the Marrakech Declaration—marked a major step forward in building aligned African frameworks for ESG, traceability, and responsible mineral development.

Industry Insights & Innovation

Across both days, experts tackled the most critical issues in mining today:

  • Critical minerals and energy transition
  • Governance and mineral sovereignty
  • ESG adapted to African realities
  • Women in mining & talent development
  • Water stress and sustainable operations
  • Logistics, infrastructure & regional corridors
  • Digitalization, geometallurgy & modern exploration

Leading companies such as OCP, Managem, CMT, ONHYM, and global partners shared strategic roadmaps and new initiatives supporting Africa’s industrial development.

Closing with Field Insights

The congress concluded with high-level site visits, giving delegates firsthand exposure to Morocco’s advanced mining, processing, and logistics capabilities—further confirming the country’s role as a regional industrial anchor.

A Successful Edition Shaping Africa’s Mining Future

IMC Morocco 2025 has reaffirmed its role as a premier platform for continental cooperation, investment facilitation, and strategic dialogue. The momentum generated in Marrakech will continue driving policy alignment, responsible development, and the transformation of Africa’s mineral wealth into long-term shared prosperity.

Testimonials

Morocco has it all to be Africa’s premier sustainable mining investment destination.

  • Diverse range of minerals: consistent production of various mineral resources, including phosphates, lead, zinc, copper, gold, silver, cobalt, manganese, fluorine, and barites.
  • Home to three-quarters of the planet’s known phosphate reserves: Morocco is the world’s top exporter of crude phosphates and, in 2021, was ranked Africa’s most attractive mining investment destination and 8th globally due to its mineral potential and progressive legislation.
  • Ambitious plans: Morocco is set to double its 2020 revenue from non-phosphate mining to over $1.7 billion by 2030, alongside a green strategy for responsible and sustainable mining in partnership with the European Union.
  • At the forefront of the global battery minerals production and processing revolution: Morocco has attracted significant investment, with three major electric vehicle battery plants announced by leading battery industry giants.
  • The world’s ninth-largest producer of cobalt: with an annual production of 2,000 tonnes, Morocco aims to capitalise on its cobalt reserves, positioning itself as a key player in the rechargeable battery supply chain.
